For many years, I have been writing, teaching, and researching the subject of professionalism.
After starting my career as a diagnostic radiographer within the National Health Service, I entered academia, where I became an Associate Professor in Medical Imaging and Clinical Practice Research at Kingston and St George’s University, London. Ready for a new experience, I decided to become a freelance trainer, combining my love of teaching with my love for a subject that is forever fascinating and never ceases to inspire me.

It was training healthcare students to deliver and advance effective patient-centred care that first sparked my interest in professional excellence. In 2009, I was awarded a Doctorate in Education from the Open University for my research into professional development through workplace socialisation. Research revealed the complex nature of professionalism and highlighted the challenges people face in developing professional attributes. This led me to create a series of workshops to support trainers in maximising the professional potential of others.
As an experienced and well-credentialed educator, I have extensive experience in designing and delivering training that has an impact. My experience spans clinical, academic, and commercial sectors, where I use my extensive leadership, team-building, and teaching skills to build positive professional cultures that support individuals and employers in adopting good-practice principles to foster personal development and professional excellence.
It is my experiences as a business owner that prompted me to write Professionalism Matters and subsequently Professional Collaboration Matters, in which I draw on my own knowledge and experiences and tap into the wealth of insight and understanding of others in business, as a way of raising sights and standards. I am currently working on my next book, Train Better Spend Less, helping business owners and leaders develop a professional workforce in the most cost-effective way.
When not writing or delivering training, I can be found out and about enjoying the beauty of the Cotswolds and promoting the work of Cheltenham Open Door, a charity which supports vulnerable adults and those experiencing homelessness.
